The Maui Humane Society (MHS) has teamed up with the Molokaʻi Humane Society to deliver vital preventative health services for animals on Molokaʻi. During a community clinic on Friday, October 2, the organizations successfully microchipped and vaccinated 195 animals, enhancing pet health and reunification efforts on the island.

As part of this ongoing collaboration, MHS is organizing the transfer of six stray dogs from Molokaʻi to Maui. This initiative aims to provide these dogs with necessary veterinary care, rehabilitation, and opportunities for adoption into loving homes.

The six dogs are scheduled to arrive at Māla Wharf in Lahaina at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2026. Upon their arrival, MHS staff and animal transport personnel will take the dogs to the Puʻunēnē shelter. Each animal will undergo thorough health assessments, receive essential medical treatments, vaccinations, spay/neuter surgeries, and behavioral evaluations before being placed in foster care or available for adoption.

Nikki Russell, Chief of Operations at Maui Humane Society, stated, “Inter-island partnerships and animal transports are vital to ensuring that pets across all of Maui Nui receive the care and second chances they deserve.” She expressed gratitude towards the Molokaʻi Humane Society, transport teams, and community supporters for their contributions to these lifesaving efforts.

To accommodate incoming animals, MHS is hosting a “Big Dogs Big Sale” from Thursday, October 8 through Saturday, October 10, featuring a 50% discount on adoption fees for adult dogs weighing 45 pounds and up.

Community members can assist in several ways: by adopting or fostering the incoming dogs once cleared by the medical team, or by participating in the “Big Dogs Big Sale” promotion this week. Additionally, donations are essential for the success of inter-island clinics, animal transports, and medical treatments, and tax-deductible contributions can be made on the MHS website.
