Prodogi, a pet health company founded by veterinarians, has launched an oral health strip specifically designed for dogs. This product aims to tackle a critical issue in pet dental care by fully coating the dog's mouth, unlike traditional chews, powders, and water additives that only affect contact surfaces.

The launch follows a clinical study showing that dogs using the Prodogi strip experienced an 80% reduction in volatile sulfur compounds, key indicators of harmful oral bacteria, within 14 days. The strip also demonstrated a 41% improvement in breath and a 25% greater reduction in plaque-causing bacteria compared to a leading dental supplement, providing three times better results on hard-to-reach teeth.
Dr. Steve Mehler, co-founder and veterinary specialist at Prodogi, highlighted the growing concern of periodontal disease in dogs, which has risen from about 80% to over 90% by age two. He emphasized that while many dental products have effective ingredients, their delivery mechanisms often fail to reach all areas of the mouth.
The Prodogi strip utilizes a unique delivery system that reacts with saliva, becoming sticky and preventing immediate swallowing. As it dissolves, it coats the oral cavity and embeds active ingredients in liposomal capsules for slow-release and prolonged effectiveness.
Dr. Mehler criticized the normalization of bad breath in dogs, which he indicated is a sign of underlying bacterial issues. He pointed out that only a small percentage of dog owners regularly brush their pets' teeth, and even that method falls short in providing full mouth coverage. Prodogi, committed to improving at-home oral care, offers a solution that Dr. Mehler considers a necessary advancement in pet health.
The Prodogi strip is formulated for dogs up to 65 pounds to take one strip daily, while larger dogs over 65 pounds should receive two strips each day. The product is manufactured in the United States and sold directly to consumers.
