The company's FERMOPURE® line includes plant-based products such as FERMOPURE® VEGAN L-CYSTEINE and FERMOPURE® NATURAL L-CYSTINE, which serve as flavor precursors and components in pet food. These products perform well even at low doses and can be incorporated into various forms, including liquids, chewables, tablets, and powders. The flavors are created through the Maillard reaction when these amino acids interact with reducing sugars, yielding savory tastes appreciated by pets.
Christian Hauk, Head of BioIngredients at WACKER’s Biosolutions division, stated that the EU approval allows for an expanded range of high-quality, plant-based products, ensuring full traceability for customers. This regulatory green light follows a positive safety assessment from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), providing a clear framework for pet food manufacturers.
WACKER's FERMOPURE® products, including variants of L-cysteine and L-cystine, were developed through a fermentation process utilizing plant-based glucose, resulting in a sustainable alternative to conventionally sourced L-cysteine.
