Bhuvaneshwar "Bunny" Reddy Kosna, who grew up on a dairy farm in South India, is pioneering advancements in pet health through his startup, WagVitals. After relocating to the United States in 2023 to pursue a master's degree in business analytics at Kent State University, Kosna was inspired by the loss of his dog, which prompted him to consider how technology could help pet owners monitor their pets' health more effectively.

Kosna identified a gap in the pet technology market, noting that most existing smart collars prioritize GPS tracking but fail to provide insights into a dog’s health. Conversations with veterinarians and over 70 pet owners revealed that obesity and mobility issues were significant concerns among pets. This feedback led to the development of WagVitals, which focuses on creating a smart collar that tracks a dog’s activity and mobility, aiming to help pet owners detect potential mobility issues early.

Additionally, WagVitals is designing a smart bed that automatically tracks a dog’s weight. The integration of weight, activity, and mobility data will enable the company to offer personalized diet and training recommendations for better canine health.

Since relocating to Wisconsin, Kosna has leveraged local resources and networks to grow his business. He has engaged with over 40 investors and built a waitlist of more than 700 interested customers. The supportive entrepreneurial community in Wisconsin has played a crucial role in his journey, facilitating connections and collaboration through organizations like gener8tor and the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation.

Looking to the future, Kosna envisions expanding WagVitals beyond just a smart collar. His long-term goal is to develop a digital twin for each dog, utilizing health and activity data to analyze how pets respond to different diets, training methods, and medications. This technology could also potentially reduce the need for animal testing by allowing for initial trials in a digital environment.

WagVitals is currently focused on growth in Wisconsin while preparing for international expansion, including a planned launch in India. Ultimately, Kosna aims for WagVitals to enhance pet owners' understanding of their dogs' health, helping pets lead healthier, happier lives.
