The proposed adoption initiative, stemming from Sabrina Stanley’s LEADSWVA capstone project, will be managed by Dickenson County Animal Control. The program aims to facilitate the adoption of more animals into homes, addressing the issue of overcrowding in shelters.
Additionally, the board authorized naming the Route 621 bridge at Lower George’s Fork the Johnny Lee Hawkins Memorial Bridge, in remembrance of Hawkins, a county native and Vietnam veteran.
In other developments, representatives from SE Group introduced a project titled “Gateways to Adventure,” which focuses on improving outdoor recreational opportunities in Dickenson and Buchanan counties. The initiative seeks to qualify for funding, and a public survey will be conducted to gather input from residents.
