The Moose Jaw Humane Society reported a significant increase in pet adoptions during September, with 47 animals finding new homes. Executive Director Dana Haukaas noted that traditionally, adoption numbers slow during the summer as families take vacations, but September bucked that trend.

"In September we adopted out 10 dogs, four rabbits, and 33 cats. That is over a cat a day for the month," Haukaas stated, highlighting the shelter’s successful month.

Despite the uptick in adoptions, many animals still await their forever homes. Currently, the humane society has 16 cats, four rabbits, and eight dogs available for adoption, all of which can be viewed on their website.

Looking ahead, the shelter is preparing for its 14th annual Paws for Pledges Radiothon on November 6. Country 100 will broadcast live from the humane society from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., aiming to raise $85,000 to support everyday operations and care for the animals. Haukaas explained that funds will help cover staff salaries, veterinary care, and necessary vaccinations for the animals.

Individuals and organizations do not need to wait for Radiothon day to support the shelter. Donation forms will be mailed to supporters, and a newsletter will also be sent via email. Additionally, community members can organize their own fundraisers, such as dress-down days, bake sales, or recycling contributions, to help the shelter and its pets.
