The proposal also aims to incentivize the adoption of rescued pets from registered animal shelters. The ministry noted that the objective is to foster kindness and empathy towards animals in need.
The current cap for personal income tax relief for lifestyle remains at RM2,500, which will now encompass the new pet care expenses.
Additionally, to enhance digital literacy and promote the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, the government plans to broaden the scope of this tax relief to include subscription costs for AI software and applications for personal use for individuals, their spouses, or children.
As of the 2024 assessment year, the RM2,500 cap includes expenditures on reading materials, such as e-books and newspapers, as well as purchases of personal computers, smartphones, tablets, and internet subscriptions. – Bernama
