Rescuers employed specialized camera equipment to determine Lucky’s exact location within the pipe prior to extraction. Updates about the rescue efforts and subsequent veterinary care were shared on social media by the Cape of Good Hope SPCA.
The operation included personnel from the Cape of Good Hope SPCA, the City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service, SAAWIA, and TAH Animal Hospital, who all played a role in the care of the kitten after his removal.
After successfully extracting Lucky, he was immediately taken for a medical examination and provided with warmth and veterinary attention. Unfortunately, his condition declined later that evening, and he passed away despite the rescue team's efforts to save him.
The rescuers, including Trainee Inspector De Vos, Cadet Baker, and Inspector Rodney, were commended for their dedication during the extended operation. Despite being trapped for an extended period, Lucky was ensured care and warmth in his final hours.
