Supervisor Saladino stated, "I invite and encourage residents looking for their new best friend to look no further than the Town Animal Shelter, where all adoptions are free all through September." He emphasized the shelter staff's commendable care for the animals and their track record of matching pets with families.
During September, the shelter will eliminate general adoption fees that are typically $80 for dogs and $84 for cats. Standard adoption services will still be provided, including spaying or neutering, vaccinations, and microchipping. Residents wanting to meet adoptable animals can schedule an appointment by calling the shelter, or they can check the Town’s Facebook page or website at www.oysterbaytown.com.
Councilwoman Maier noted that many animals end up in shelters due to circumstances beyond their control. “Most shelter pets wind up there through no fault of their own, often for a reason their owners are faced with, and are already housetrained and familiar living in family settings,” she remarked. She shared her personal experience of adopting a shelter pet, highlighting the unconditional love these animals offer.
Additionally, the Town will hold a Free Rabies Vaccination Clinic at the Animal Shelter on Saturday, September 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. No reservations are needed, and microchip services will be available for a $25 fee.
The Town of Oyster Bay Animal Shelter is located at 150 Miller Place in Syosset and is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday. For more information or to make an appointment, residents can call (516) 677-5784.
