This initiative was part of the MARS Global Adoption Weekend campaign, with Champion Petfoods sponsoring all individual adoption fees. This financial support enabled many local families to adopt pets at no cost. Tousignant brought along a young puppy to the fiscal court, representing a litter of twelve currently available at the shelter.

The successful event reflects positive progress for the shelter following recent structural changes. In May 2023, the Logan Fiscal Court ended its 35-year partnership with the Humane Society due to concerns over liability related to stray animals and animal bite incidents. The county officially transitioned to a fully self-operated shelter in February 2024.

Since the shift to a county-operated model, the shelter has made significant advancements through community collaborations and impactful adoption events. Court members praised Tousignant’s leadership, with Magistrate Jamie Goodwin emphasizing the progress made, saying, "I think all your people have done great."

Tousignant thanked the court and mentioned that he and his staff are continuously striving for improvement. He acknowledged, "obviously, we're not perfect and we're always getting better performing and trying to do the best we can."

Additionally, Tousignant informed the court that he was recently re-elected for another two-year term as vice president of Kentucky Animal Care and Control, expressing enthusiasm for the position as a platform to advocate for vulnerable animals across the region.
