He promptly released the trapped cats, ensured they were safe in carriers, and contacted the RSPCA for assistance. Two of the kittens, named Maude and Mr. Gold, were immediately taken to Birmingham Animal Hospital for treatment of fleas, anemia, and dehydration. Both are recovering well.

The remaining 24 cats are now under the care of the RSPCA. Though they endured a difficult experience, they are reportedly in good health and are bouncing back quickly. Paul Nijjar, an animal rescue officer with the RSPCA, condemned the abandonment as a cruel act but expressed gratitude to the man who found and helped the animals.

The RSPCA is currently reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify those responsible for the abandonment, which occurred in broad daylight on a busy street.

In the past year, the RSPCA has reported a 67 percent increase in multi-cat rescues, taking in 20,000 cats in 2025 and expecting a higher number in 2026. Despite the strain on their resources, rescuers remain committed to helping animals in need. Thanks to the actions of the finder, the abandoned cats will soon be ready for adoption.
