Consuelos shared the exciting news, explaining that Javi, originally named Lucas by the animal rescue organization Pet ResQ Inc., is still undergoing medical tests before officially moving in. Ripa humorously referred to themselves as "expectant parents," noting that she began "nesting" the night before.
Their existing dog, Lena, initially showed fear during her first meeting with Javi. However, Consuelos expressed optimism that they would soon become "great buddies." He mentioned a "chemistry test" they conducted during the introductions, where Lena did not bark at Javi.
Javi's adoption comes after the passing of the couple's beloved dog, Chewie, who died at age 17 in February 2025. Ripa shared her sentimental feelings about the resemblance between Javi and Chewie, suggesting that Chewie may have sent Javi to them. Reflecting on her attachment to Chewie, she remarked, "I will never get over and mourn for the rest of my life... my beloved dog sent this little dog here."
Ripa has a history of adopting dogs from *Live With Kelly and Mark*, as Lena came into their lives in a similar manner six years ago. The couple's journey with their pets highlights their deep affection for animals.
