Watauga Humane Society to Offer Free Pet Vaccine Clinic on October 12

The Vaccinated and Loved campaign is part of Petco Love’s mission to make essential vaccines accessible and to reduce barriers to pet healthcare. Common illnesses such as parvovirus and distemper in dogs, and panleukopenia in cats, can be prevented with vaccinations. Despite this, data shows that only 38% of pet owners attending previous free clinics reported that their pets had been vaccinated against these diseases, highlighting the importance of such events in the North Carolina High Country.

The clinic will administer DAPPv Canine and HCP Feline vaccines free of charge. Attendees are encouraged to visit the Watauga Humane Society at 312 Paws Way in Boone between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on the day of the event. Rabies vaccinations are mandated by North Carolina law—pet owners should bring proof if their pets are current. If not, the humane society can administer the rabies vaccine for a fee of $12. Microchipping will also be available for $15.

Ashlee Yepez, Director of Shelter Operations, emphasized the importance of access to preventive care, stating, "Petco Love’s partnership allows us to bring lifesaving vaccines directly to pet parents at no cost. When we remove access barriers, more pets stay protected — and that benefits our entire community."

According to Petco Love President Chelsea Staley, many pet parents rely on these clinics as their first step toward establishing a routine veterinary care regimen, making them essential for financially strained families. The Vaccinated and Loved initiative, which began in 2021, has significantly improved pet health across the U.S.
