The ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) has launched The Rescue Effect campaign in celebration of Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, which is supported by Subaru of America and various celebrities. This initiative encourages the public to adopt or foster pets to help more animals find homes. The campaign, which began in August and runs through October, includes participation from numerous shelters across the nation, aiming to engage potential adopters and minimize the duration animals spend in shelters.

This year, the ASPCA allocated $2 million in grants to assist 200 shelters in waiving adoption fees and supporting operational costs. Many shelters are currently at capacity, with nearly three million dogs entering these facilities in 2025. As a result, dogs are often remaining in care longer before being adopted.

Christa Chadwick, senior vice president of shelter services for the ASPCA, emphasized the importance of this month, stating that it is an ideal time to experience The Rescue Effect and highlight the benefits of bringing a shelter pet into one's life. She noted that shelters have dogs of varying sizes, ages, and personalities available for adoption, and each adoption has a ripple effect, creating more space and resources for additional animals in need. For those who are not ready to adopt, fostering is presented as an equally lifesaving alternative.

The campaign has garnered support from various public figures and social media influencers, including Gavin Rossdale, Megan Thee Stallion, Maxwell Jenkins, and others, all of whom are helping to raise awareness about the importance of pet adoption and fostering. Digital ads are also being run in select markets to encourage community participation in supporting local shelters.
