Dozens of cats that were rescued from a neglect case in Southern Oregon are now available for adoption through a special promotion by Oregon Humane Society. In June 2026, Central Point Police collaborated with Oregon Humane to rescue nearly 80 animals, primarily cats, from a single home.

Since the rescue, the cats have received extensive medical and behavioral care, with associated expenses exceeding $250,000, placing a strain on the organization's resources. Now, many of these cats are ready to find new homes.
Oregon Humane Public Information Officer Laura Klink discussed the rescue and the preparation of the cats for adoption, as well as the organization's resource challenges. To facilitate the adoption of adult cats, Oregon Humane is holding an “Adopt Joy” promotion from August 21 to 23 at its campuses in Portland and Salem. During this event, adopters are allowed to set their own adoption fee for cats aged one year and older.
The promotion is applicable to all eligible adult cats, not just those from the neglect case, as adopting any available cat helps free up resources for other animals in need. All adoptions will include up-to-date vaccinations, spay or neuter surgery, a microchip, and a complimentary veterinary exam. Oregon Humane’s locations are open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
