Liam Hunt, a volunteer and software developer from Oakfield, has established a new pet adoption website aimed at enhancing the visibility and adoption rates of pets across Wales. The website, named Adopt a Pet Wales, aggregates information from 13 animal centers in South and West Wales, extending from Pembrokeshire, with future plans to encompass the entire country.

Hunt, who has volunteered with All Creatures Great and Small, an animal sanctuary in Llanfrechfa near Cwmbran, was motivated to create the platform after witnessing many dogs in the rescue center waiting weeks or even months for a home. He expressed his desire to streamline the adoption process and make it easier for potential pet owners to find animals in need.
Users of the website can enter their postcode and select criteria such as pet type and age to view available animals. Hunt collaborated with Angharad, the manager at All Creatures, to develop the site, which he believes fulfills a unique niche in animal rescue.
During his two years of volunteering, Hunt has gained insights into the challenges faced by rescue organizations. He remarked, "I’m surprised it’s not already a thing. It’s not a revolutionary idea, but I think it hasn’t been implemented because people in technology aren’t involved in that sector."
All Creatures Great and Small commended Hunt for his efforts, stating that the website not only highlights animals in need of homes but also raises awareness for their cause. They recognized his commitment to bringing fresh ideas to the organization every week.
The site continues to grow, and Hunt remains dedicated to improving the adoption experience for both pets and their future owners.
