Specialist Levi Jackson highlights Segal, an explosives detection dog trained to locate various military and commercial grade explosives. When Segal discovers something, he signals success by sitting.

According to Specialist Jackson, explosives detection dogs are trained for passive responses, which include sitting, lying down, or stopping to stare.

Segal, weighing 90 pounds, exemplifies strength, intelligence, and agility. He responds to verbal markers rather than treats, with playtime serving as his reward.

In addition to detection, these dogs undergo extensive bite training to prepare for potential threats. Specialist Jackson notes that dogs can be deployed in situations where lethal force might be considered necessary.

Military working dogs are often called into service on short notice. Captain Richard Wilson, Commander of the 222nd MP Detachment, mentions that their roles can include support for United States Secret Service missions or deployment to the CENTCOM theater.

Captain Wilson emphasizes the importance of readiness, stating, "It’s not if something’s going to happen, but when."

These dogs are not only strong and prepared for combat but also cherished companions. Specialist Jackson expresses a personal bond with Segal, noting that while he would love to bring him home, he recognizes the responsibility of caring for him professionally.
