Amcor contributes its packaging technology and expertise, while Petino offers specialized manufacturing capabilities for single-dose formats. Sea Fairy brings insights into the preferences of Chinese pet owners and market dynamics.
Jeff Li, commercial general manager of Food and Personal Care at Amcor Flexibles China, stated that combining technology, manufacturing, and branding from the outset enables quicker transitions from concept to commercial production. He emphasized that this model can assist Chinese brands in advancing packaging innovation and scaling their solutions globally.
Designed for convenience, the packaging allows for one-handed use. Consumers can simply snap open the pack along pre-scored lines to access a precisely portioned dose, eliminating the need for scissors or measuring tools. This portable design is intended for travel and on-the-go feeding, utilizing high-barrier films to protect sensitive ingredients like fish oil from oxidation and maintain product quality.
Yang Jinyu, founder and CEO of Sea Fairy, remarked that single-dose formats are becoming crucial for growth, with packaging enhancing user experience and conveying brand quality. He noted that the card-style format's eco-friendly attributes resonate with modern Chinese pet owners who prioritize sustainability.
Zhang Kai, pet project lead at Petino, highlighted that Petino’s manufacturing strengths will enable the mass production of these new products, reinforcing long-term innovation in the pet industry.
Last month, Amcor also partnered with premium pet food brand Ge Wu An, affiliated with Shanghai Jianmo Biotechnology, to launch the Li Kou pet food cup, which is considered the first commercial use of an inverted-cup format in China. The company pointed out the increasing trend of premium pet ownership in China, driven by heightened awareness of animal care among younger consumers.
In other recent developments within the pet food sector, UFlex inaugurated a manufacturing facility for woven PP bags in Altamira, Mexico, investing $52 million in the 10-acre site with an annual output target of 80 million bags. Additionally, BW Converting has expanded the potential applications of its Hudson-Sharp Pour & Lok technology to support resealable flexible packaging for pet food.
