The shelter, which opened on October 1, 2022, serves unincorporated Volusia County, as well as Oak Hill and Pierson. In its first year, over 250 animals have been adopted, and more than 250 lost pets have been reunited with their owners. Additionally, more than 130 animals have received shelter during investigations or when animal services intervened due to situations such as an owner's death, incarceration, or hospitalization.

Angela Miedema, Director of Volusia County Animal Services, highlighted the shelter's impact, stating, "The first year has shown just how important this shelter is to both the animals we serve and our community." She noted that the team has managed animals in critical situations, supported cruelty investigations, and housed dogs awaiting investigation, while helping hundreds find new homes or return to their families.

The shelter is located at 2120 E. International Speedway Boulevard and is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Interested individuals can check the current animals available for adoption online at volusia.gov/adoption.
