Dr. Briana Blackwelder Wins 2026 My Vet Rocks Award

Dr. Blackwelder was recognized for her clinical skills and compassionate approach to equine care, particularly in support of the horses belonging to nominator Sierra Severt. Severt praised Dr. Blackwelder, stating, "I’ve watched her transform horses that people thought would never be the same, not with miracles but with knowledge, patience and unwavering commitment to always put the horse first."

A graduate of North Carolina State University in 2025, Dr. Blackwelder completed a yearlong internship at Tryon Equine Hospital before launching her ambulatory practice in June. She specializes in lameness and integrative medicine, and also provides urgent care to fellow veterinarians in her area.

As the grand prize winner, Dr. Blackwelder received a prize package from AAEP Educational Partner Zoetis, along with complimentary registration, accommodation, and travel to the AAEP’s 72nd Annual Convention in Las Vegas, where she will be honored on December 8.

Dr. Blackwelder expressed her gratitude, saying, "In my opinion, every single equine veterinarian is a hero, whether you treat horses full time or only on occasion. Thank you to all the amazing veterinarians and support staff working tirelessly every day to help horses, support their owners, and make this profession the best one on earth!"

The runners-up for the award included Dr. Rachel Liepman from Cave Creek, Arizona, nominated by Michelle Mooney, and Dr. David Miller from Akron, Ohio, nominated by the therapeutic riding program Victory Gallop.

Jen Blanchard, Head of Marketing for Zoetis Equine, stated, "Zoetis is proud to recognize the incredible impact that equine veterinarians make each and every day for their patients and clients. We are honored to support AAEP in this important and timely initiative."

My Vet Rocks invited horse owners to submit videos highlighting why their veterinarians are exceptional. Additional honors were awarded for categories such as Most Creative Video, which went to Copper Perry-Wilson for nominating Dr. Clayton McCook, and Longest Relationship with a Veterinarian, awarded to Martin Wollam for his 35-year partnership with Dr. David Miller. The best submission from a rescue or therapeutic organization was attributed to Victory Gallop. Runners-up and special recognition winners also received prize packages from Zoetis.
