KALKASKA COUNTY, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) - Seniors in Kalkaska County facing challenges with pet care have gained a new resource through a grant from the Meals on Wheels Pet Program. The Kalkaska County Commission on Aging will utilize this funding to help with various needs including preventative and emergency care, medications, and emergency boarding for pets.

Jodi Magee, director of the Kalkaska Senior Center, reported that last year the program assisted 62 seniors, and this year it has already reached 58 clients. She stated, "This January we cover food costs, we can cover vaccinations, shots, grooming, some surgeries, emergency care. So any need that they have we can help with." Seniors who require assistance are encouraged to reach out to the Kalkaska County Commission on Aging.
