Rochester, N.Y. — On Sunday, October 11, 2026, Rochester Animal Services (RAS) participated in The Rescue Effect campaign, an initiative by the ASPCA aimed at helping shelter animals find loving homes. Two adoption events were held that day: the first at the East Rochester Farmers’ Market and the second at RAS on Verona Street from noon to 4 p.m.

To encourage adoptions, all fees were waived at both events. This initiative not only provides potential pet owners with a chance to adopt but also helps RAS create more space for animals needing shelter during current renovations.
Kris Weltman, a volunteer at the East Rochester Farmers’ Market, remarked on the benefits of the event, stating it offers a wonderful opportunity for those considering adopting dogs. Volunteers brought dogs to the market, allowing visitors to interact with and get to know the animals personally.
RAS will also host a Halloween Adoption event on October 31 from noon to 4 p.m. at their Verona Street location.
