Owners Meg and Kyle McLain created the studio to assist pet owners who struggle to provide adequate daily exercise for their dogs due to busy schedules. "If you get back home from work, you’re excited to see your dog. But sometimes they haven’t gotten the exercise they need that day, and it’s hard to enjoy them the way we want to enjoy them," the McLains explained. Their goal is to collaborate with dog owners to enhance their enjoyment of their pets.
The studio offers a safe alternative to off-leash play areas, with trained staff guiding dogs through personalized fitness sessions based on their energy levels. Additionally, Better Dog Co. has partnered with the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA, donating exercise sessions to help shelter dogs expend energy before adoption visits. The McLains emphasize that regular exercise can significantly impact a dog’s behavior, helping shelter dogs appear calmer and more comfortable when meeting potential adopters.
