On August 27, the Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine welcomed its second class during a stethoscope ceremony attended by Rowan University administrators, faculty, staff, current students, and their families. Ninety aspiring veterinary students received Littman stethoscopes, all donated by Nutramax Laboratories, each with notes of encouragement from practicing veterinarians or family members.

Fifty of the enrolled students are from New Jersey, representing 15 out of the state's 21 counties. Matthew Edson, the Founding Dean of the Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine, emphasized the support network available to students. "We have a huge network of almost 4,000 veterinarians in New Jersey who are here to support you," he said. He acknowledged the challenges ahead, stating that veterinary school is designed to be tough to prepare students for their future careers.
Stephanie Fisher, president of Rowan’s Student American Veterinary Medical Association and a member of the school’s inaugural class, also spoke at the event. “I know exactly what it’s like to be in your seats,” she said, encouraging new students by highlighting the supportive Rowan community.
The Shreiber School, founded in 2025 with a $30 million endowment for scholarships from philanthropist Gerry Shreiber, focuses on the One Health concept, which integrates human, animal, and environmental health. Rowan University stands out as one of only two universities in the U.S. offering M.D., D.O., and DVM medical programs.
