Organized by the Rokethon organization, the event attracted families, pet owners, and animal welfare advocates, all committed to enhancing the lives of animals.
Visitors were able to interact with pets in need of homes and meet the organizations dedicated to their protection, alongside various activities such as agility demonstrations, entertainment, art, and photography.
A symbolic walk around the Bit Top, a hallmark of Rokethon, served to unite attendees around the mission of animal welfare.
Rokethon President Sylvia Sermenghi emphasized that the event is intended as a celebration rather than a commercial venture. She stated, “I don’t want something really commercial, because that means we will be making money on the back of the animals. I don’t want that. I want to help animals.”
Sermenghi believes that enhancing the lives of animals requires not just financial contributions but also love, compassion, and understanding of their needs and behaviors.
As shelters increasingly deal with high demand and rising pet care costs, she acknowledged the financial challenges pet owners face and stressed the importance of recognizing the commitment involved in pet ownership.
Sermenghi's vision for Rokethon extends beyond the annual event; she aims to foster a culture of animal welfare education in schools, encouraging children to treat animals with respect and to advocate against mistreatment.
Additionally, she seeks to collaborate more closely with the Monegasque government on animal welfare initiatives, aspiring to set an example for animal treatment in Monaco.
With the successful conclusion of its third edition, Rokethon aims to broaden its influence in promoting adoption, responsible ownership, and a deeper understanding of animal welfare throughout the Principality.
