Louly, a 19-Year-Old Cat, Recognized as the Oldest Feline at Cats Protection in England

Cats Protection has announced that Louly, a 19-year-old cat based in Essex, is the oldest feline in its care across all its sanctuaries in England. The charity is looking for a new home for Louly, who is nearing her 20th birthday, which is equivalent to about 96 years in human terms.

Louly was brought to the charity's Rayleigh, Castle Point & District offices in Essex after her owner moved in February. Her foster carer, Mel Catmore, stated, "Louly has only grown more charming with age," noting that the cat remains in "excellent health" and still enjoys playful activities, although she would thrive best in a quieter environment.

Catmore added, "She's an absolute delight to be around and she has even learned to give high fives." Louly’s age surpasses the average life expectancy for cats, which is estimated at 11.7 years according to a 2024 study by the Royal Veterinary College.

Notably, the oldest cat on record, as recognized by Guinness World Records, lived to be 38 years old. Daniel Warren-Cummings, senior behaviour engagement manager at Cats Protection, emphasized the diversity among mature cats, stating that some continue to enjoy playtime while others prefer a more relaxed lifestyle.
