BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- The Humane Society of Central Oregon (HSCO) is offering a 50% discount on adoption fees for all available dogs as part of its Barktober promotion. This offer runs from Thursday, October 1, through Saturday, October 10, and includes dogs of all ages, from puppies to seniors.

Amber Kostoff, HSCO Executive Director, stated, “There is no one right age to adopt. Some people love raising a puppy, while others are looking for an adolescent to join them on adventures or an older dog who is ready for a quieter home. Our client care team can help adopters find the dog that fits their household style.”
The adoption fee covers spay or neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, a microchip, a collar, an identification tag, and a leash. Additionally, adopters will receive a complimentary health exam at a participating veterinary clinic, transition food for their new pet, a toys-and-treats goodie box, and special offers from local pet businesses.
HSCO notes that its standard adoption process remains in effect, and dog licensing fees are separate from adoption fees. The seasonal promotions aim to make pet adoption more accessible by providing financial assistance and support for pet care.
As of 2026, HSCO has facilitated 754 adoptions, assisting animals in finding homes throughout the community. Currently, the organization's kennels are at capacity, underscoring the need for more shelter space to accommodate various community requirements, including housing stray animals and handling court-ordered pet holds.
Individuals interested in viewing available dogs can visit hsco.org. HSCO is located at 61170 SE 27th St. in Bend and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
