Artists aged 18 and older can submit works that depict animals, including fish and insects, though video, installation, and audio works are not eligible. Each artist may submit a maximum of three original pieces, which must be priced for sale. The maximum dimensions for entries are 60”x60”x48”. Any artwork that deviates from its digital representation may be disqualified.
A 20 percent commission from each sale will benefit LSU Vet Med programs, and contributions to support the exhibition can be made payable to the LSU Foundation with "Animals in Art" noted in the memo. Several awards will be presented, including Best of Show, Judge’s Awards, Honorable Mentions, People’s Choice, and the JAVMA Award, which will feature the chosen piece on a cover of the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association. The Art Show Promotion Award will highlight the piece selected by LSU Vet Med to promote the subsequent exhibition.
In the 2025 exhibition, 150 artists from 30 states, Canada, Germany, Guatemala, and Turkey submitted 302 entries, with 60 selected for display. This comprised 26 pieces from Louisiana, 21 from other states, and one from Canada.
The LSU School of Veterinary Medicine is one of only 33 veterinary schools in the United States and the sole institution in Louisiana, committed to enhancing the lives of animals and people through education, research, and compassionate care.
