Fisher lived in Bath with her late partner, actor Anthony Head, known for his roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Little Britain. During her illness, her family described her as being vibrant and devoted to her work, with her daughter Emily Head stating that Fisher was "too busy living" even after her terminal diagnosis.
Fisher's journey began in August 2019, when she was first diagnosed with a benign thyroid nodule. By June 2025, she sought medical attention due to increased swelling, leading to blood tests and a referral to the ear, nose, and throat department. In September, she received the diagnosis of anaplastic thyroid cancer, a condition known for its aggressive nature.
Dr. Matthew Beasley, a consultant clinical oncologist in Bristol, noted that Fisher's life expectancy following the diagnosis aligned with typical outcomes for this type of cancer. At the inquest, Dr. Peter Harrowing, the area coroner for Avon, ruled that Fisher died from natural causes and expressed condolences to her family, who were not present.
