Broward County Animal Care is collaborating with the BISSELL Pet Foundation to eliminate adoption fees for eligible dogs and cats from September 18 to 30 as part of the national Empty the Shelters campaign. While the foundation is covering the adoption fees, adopters will still need to pay the applicable Broward County pet registration fee.

Doug Brightwell, director of Broward County Animal Care, stated, “Every adoption changes two lives—the life of the pet going home and the life of the animal that can be helped because space has opened at the shelter.” He emphasized that this partnership aims to remove financial barriers, facilitating the process for residents to welcome a deserving pet into their homes.
Each adoption not only enables a pet to find a home but also creates space for additional animals entering the shelter. This helps to alleviate stress within the shelter environment and allows staff and volunteers to provide more individualized attention to animals awaiting homes.
