
Firefighters rescued four dogs and a cat from a house fire in De Soto on October 2, according to fire officials. De Soto Captain Scott Scharf reported that emergency crews were dispatched at 2:42 p.m. to a two-story residence in the 500 block of South Second Street after a bystander noticed smoke and heard smoke detectors.

The fire, which was contained to the kitchen, was quickly extinguished, and no injuries were reported. Damage was limited to a small area in the kitchen, but smoke affected the rest of the house.
Assistance at the scene was provided by the Valle Ambulance District, De Soto Police Department, as well as the Hematite and Hillsboro fire protection districts. The Jefferson R-7 Fire Protection District also helped manage other emergency calls.
