The Japan Patent Office (JPO) has granted a Decision to Grant for a patent application titled "Variants of SIRT6 for use in preventing and/or treating age-related diseases" (Japanese Patent Application No. 2024-515284). This decision, issued on September 15, 2026, allows all 16 claims put forth by the application, with formal registration pending the payment of a registration fee within the statutory period. The patent, which is co-owned by the University of Rochester, adds to Genflow’s intellectual property portfolio in Japan, a crucial market for pharmaceuticals due to its large size and aging population.
Additionally, Genflow has broadened its animal health partnerships by signing new confidentiality agreements with multiple companies interested in evaluating its SIRT6 gene therapy for use in companion animals. This move represents a growing opportunity in the veterinary sector, especially as aging-related conditions in pets are increasingly recognized.
Genflow’s Belgian subsidiary has also applied for a regional research grant of approximately EUR 0.76 million from the Service public de Wallonie for an 18-month research project. Although the initial application did not receive approval, the company is requesting a reopening of the file for further consideration. Importantly, the outcome of this grant application is not expected to impact the company’s financial projections.
Dr. Eric Leire, the CEO of Genflow, stated that the Japanese patent’s approval is a crucial milestone for the company as it solidifies global protection for their SIRT6 platform. He emphasized the significance of collaborative discussions in the growing animal health market and the anticipation of presenting new data in the forthcoming months.
Genflow Biosciences is publicly traded on the London Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol GENF and on the OTCQB as GENFF.
