On September 21, 2026, representatives from the United States Mint, America’s VetDogs, and the Guide Dog Foundation unveiled the designs for the 2027 Working Dogs Commemorative Coin Program during a ceremony at the White House in Washington, D.C. The program will feature a $5 gold coin, a $1 silver coin, and a half dollar clad coin, as authorized by Public Law 118-109, to benefit America’s VetDogs.

Mint Director Paul Hollis expressed the significance of commemorative coins, stating, "Commemorative coins tell America’s story, and the story of our nation’s working dogs is one of extraordinary service and sacrifice." He emphasized that the program highlights the courage, intelligence, and dedication of these animals, as well as the impact on their handlers, veterans, first responders, and others whose lives have been improved through these partnerships.

John Miller, President and CEO of the Guide Dog Foundation & America’s VetDogs, noted the importance of the coin series in sharing the stories of working dogs with millions of Americans. He explained that these dogs play vital roles in protecting communities and assisting veterans and first responders with disabilities by restoring their independence and confidence.
