Jack Millin, a 30-year-old sales team leader at Distant Journeys, adopted two cats from Woodlands Animal Sanctuary after volunteering there. The father of two shared how the experience inspired him, stating, "Let’s just say we now have two new family members. We’ve named the older cat Betty, while my little boy named the kitten Buu, after his favourite cartoon character.” He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to support Woodlands, emphasizing how it led to a significant decision for his family and benefited the cats.
Colleagues from Distant Journeys accompanied Millin during the visit. The company, recognized as the Best Travel Company for Escorted Group Holidays in 2025, allows employees to take one fully paid volunteering day each year, choosing their preferred organization to support. Woodlands Animal Sanctuary, which has been rescuing and rehoming animals for over 20 years, aligns with Distant Journeys' commitment to community engagement.
Ellie Jones, copy and communications manager at Distant Journeys, noted the sanctuary's commendable work, which she followed via social media. She highlighted that the decision to volunteer at Woodlands was a natural choice due to its reputable status in the local community. The experience was so positive that subsequent groups from Distant Journeys have returned for more volunteering.
The volunteering day included hands-on support from Woodlands' animal care team, which ensured full supervision and accommodations, allowing a team member's daughter to participate as well.
