INDIANAPOLIS — IndyHumane is waiving adoption fees for all dogs over 40 pounds from October 1 to 8 as part of an event called “There’s No Place Like Home.” The initiative comes as the shelter currently houses more than 350 animals and has no available kennels for incoming large dogs. Adopting these animals will create space for more pets in need.

Donna Casamento, CEO of IndyHumane, emphasized the urgency of finding homes for these dogs, stating, “Every one of these dogs deserves a family and a place to call home. If you’ve been considering adoption, please come meet the dogs who are waiting for you. Your adoption could make room for another animal who needs us.”

Adoption packages include several benefits: spay or neuter surgery, microchipping, a medical exam and heartworm test, the first round of vaccines, dewormer, heartworm prevention, a 30-day gift of pet insurance, free vaccines for life at the IndyHumane vaccine clinic, and a 5-pound bag of Cuddly dog food.

The adoption special coincides with the upcoming “Wizard of Pawz,” IndyHumane’s annual gala scheduled for November 6 at 6 p.m. at the Biltwell Event Center in Indianapolis, which supports the welfare of all animals in the shelter. Tickets can be purchased through the Wizard of Pawz website.

For those interested in meeting the dogs, IndyHumane is located at 7929 N. Michigan Road, Indianapolis, IN 46268. Its hours are Tuesday to Friday from noon to 7 p.m., and Saturday to Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. The shelter is closed on Mondays, and adopters are advised to arrive at least 30 minutes before closing to complete paperwork. Additionally, a special adoption event will be held on October 3 at PetSmart, 5750 W. 86th St., Indianapolis, from noon to 3 p.m., where fees will also be waived.

All adoptions are first-come, first-served, and applicants can apply online at indyhumane.org and view available dogs at indyhumane.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs.
