Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter Hosts ‘Empty the Shelter’ Adoption Event

GWINN, Mich. (WLUC) - The Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter (UPAWS) is hosting an ‘Empty the Shelter’ adoption event this weekend, in collaboration with the Bissell Pet Foundation. The initiative aims to find homes for animals in need.

Adoption fees during this event are set at $70 for dogs under seven years old and $25 for cats under that age. There is no fee for adopting dogs and cats over seven, and rabbits can be adopted for free.

UPAWS Community Outreach Coordinator Ann Brownell recommends prospective adopters read the bios of available animals beforehand. She mentioned that animals may have varying personalities, with some being more nervous while others are outgoing or relaxed. Brownell encourages potential pet owners to consider their lifestyle in choosing a pet.
