The Bhutanese Community of Greater Rochester will hold a vigil at 6 p.m. to honor those who lost their lives in the recent flooding and mudslides along the Nepal-China border, where the death toll has exceeded 1,100 with thousands still missing. The vigil will take place at the community center located at 201 Scottsville-West Henrietta Road. Bijaya Khadka, the president of BCGR, discussed the group's initiatives to aid recovery efforts in Nepal. Donations for the BCGR's fundraiser can be made either online or in-person at several locations: Buster’s Market, 3892 Scottsville Road; All In One Unit, 476 State Street; and Nepali Market, 2018 Scottsville-West Henrietta Road.
A school supply giveaway will occur at Gates Memorial Park in Spencerport from 3 to 6 p.m. Students will receive free backpacks, and there will be activities such as laser tag and food available. Attendees are encouraged to bring school supplies to donate.
Additionally, Lollypop Farm will host a free dog vaccination event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Connected Communities Neighborhood Hub on North Goodman Street. This initiative aims to provide vaccinations and connect pet owners in underserved areas with resources. Free pet food and supplies will be offered, along with expert advice on behavior and training. The next vaccination clinic is scheduled for Tuesday, October 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The People’s Pantry.
