Following goldendoodles, golden retrievers and Yorkshire terriers were the next most popular breeds in Arlington. The ranking also highlighted some “trending” breeds in the area, including the basenji, a breed known for its inability to bark, along with clumber spaniels and Irish terriers, as noted by a spokesperson for ARLnow.
Additionally, data compiled from Rover and Redfin positioned Arlington as the 14th best city in the nation for dog walking, making it the only locality in Northern Virginia to be included in this ranking. In Washington, D.C., which ranked 6th for dog walking, the Labrador retriever emerged as the most popular breed.
Sheharyar Bokhari, Principal Economist at Redfin, emphasized the importance of being able to exercise dogs without needing a car, calling it a valuable amenity for many homebuyers. He stated that walking dogs in the neighborhood contributes to making it feel more like a community.
Goldendoodles were the leading breed in 46 out of 107 localities analyzed in the report. The top three cities for dog walking were San Francisco, New York City, and Jersey City.
