Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos have welcomed a new rescue dog into their family following the death of their previous pet, Chewie. On the October 12 episode of Live With Kelly and Mark, the couple announced they adopted a dog named Javi, who was originally called Lucas by the animal rescue organization Pet ResQ Inc. Consuelos shared the news during the October 13 broadcast, stating, "We adopted Javi yesterday," although the dog is still undergoing medical tests before officially moving in.

Ripa humorously referred to their anticipation as that of "expectant parents," mentioning she had started preparing for Javi's arrival. They are also adapting their other dog, Lena, to the new addition. Consuelos noted that during their first meeting, Lena did not bark at Javi, which was a good sign for their potential friendship.
The resemblance of Javi to Chewie, who passed away in February 2025 at the age of 17, has not gone unnoticed by Ripa. She expressed a sentimental connection, suggesting that Chewie might have sent Javi to them. Ripa remarked, "I bet you Chewie sent Javi here for us," reflecting her ongoing fond memories of her late dog.
Ripa also found it serendipitous that they adopted Javi in a manner similar to Lena’s arrival six years ago during a segment on the same show about rescue pets. She had hoped to find a small dog resembling Lena, and was delighted by Javi, who resembles Chewie closely.
