Reduced Adoption Fees at October 17 Event at Lewis-Upshur Animal Control

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — A special adoption event will take place on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lewis-Upshur Animal Control, located at 318 Mud Lick Road in Buckhannon, WV. Animal lovers from Buckhannon and neighboring communities are encouraged to attend.

Hosted by LUV 4 Animals in collaboration with Jenkins Subaru and Lewis-Upshur Animal Control, the event offers reduced adoption fees of $50 for dogs and $25 for cats.

Organizers aim to foster connections beyond just the adoption fees. Visitors will have the opportunity to spend quality time with animals, with volunteers available to assist in walking dogs and interacting with cats to help potential adopters understand each pet's unique personality. Jen Kesling from LUV 4 Animals emphasized, "Sometimes you just can’t see who a dog or cat really is from a picture or through a kennel door. Once you get them out and spend a little time with them, you start to see their real personalities — the sweet, funny and loving sides of them."

All adoptions will be processed through Lewis-Upshur Animal Control. The event will also feature small giveaways for adopters, and a Jenkins Subaru representative will be participating in the festivities.

The Subaru Loves Pets initiative supports this event, with LUV 4 Animals receiving a $4,000 grant from Jenkins Subaru, managed by the ASPCA, to enhance the October adoption efforts and other initiatives for local shelter animals.

While vaccinations will not be administered on-site during the event, free rabies and DHPP vaccination vouchers will be provided for pickup the week following the event at Jen Kesling State Farm Insurance in Buckhannon and the Buckhannon-Upshur Chamber of Commerce. Pet owners can collect these vouchers during regular business hours without a designated pickup time. Appointment scheduling for vaccinations will be handled separately by Lewis-Upshur Animal Control.

For those not looking to adopt, donations of dog or cat food, leashes, collars, harnesses, treats, toys, and monetary contributions will be welcomed to support LUV 4 Animals and Lewis-Upshur Animal Control. Updates regarding the event, as well as profiles of animals available for adoption, will be shared on the LUV 4 Animals Facebook page leading up to the date.
