STANFORD, Ky. (WKYT) - The Lincoln County Animal Shelter is closed to the public while caring for over 100 animals rescued from a hoarding situation. The shelter will likely remain closed until next week, as staff work on treating the animals, many of whom have considerable health issues. Some animals are being cleaned and transported to veterinarians, assisted by local rescue groups. Despite the challenges, the community has responded with donations of pet food, de-wormer, flea and tick treatment, and water bowls. However, shelter staff have indicated a continued need for more dog and cat food.
Lanice Goodin of the Lincoln County Animal Shelter provided details on the animals' conditions, reporting that many were infested with fleas and ticks, and needed extensive grooming and medical care. One dog required a leg amputation after suffering an injury that resulted in exposed bone.
