The Humane Society & Shelter SouthCoast is currently caring for about 40 kittens, each in need of a loving home. These kittens, with varying colors and personalities, have arrived from different sources, including a golf cart found on the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth campus and overcrowded shelters in Florida. According to shelter worker Dorothy Lecomte, not all kittens are available for immediate adoption. They initially go on hold to ensure they are not lost pets. After this period, the kittens receive necessary medical treatment, vaccinations, and spaying or neutering as needed.

Lecomte emphasizes the importance of finding loving homes as quickly as possible to make them available for adoption. However, she advises potential adopters to consider the high energy levels of kittens. "A lot of people think they’re cute but forget their energy level. They need a lot more time than people sometimes realize," she said. Kittens require ample attention and cannot be left alone for long stretches. Engaging toys are essential for them to expend their energy.
Before adopting, applicants must complete a form and provide proof of address to confirm the animal can be housed there. Additionally, it’s recommended that children meet the kitten beforehand to ensure safe interaction. Ultimately, Lecomte believes the goal is to create joyful bonds between the kittens and their new families. "Everybody loves kittens. They’re fun. They’re adventurous. They’re just very cute," she noted.
