Although the individual listed on the dog's last microchip did not respond or claim him, shelter workers managed to find the family he had been separated from for over five years.
The emotional reunion was marked by heartfelt moments, with shelter staff reporting that there were "no dry eyes" as Chong and his owner embraced.
