All 44 cats have been transported to the shelter in Puyallup, where they underwent examinations, vaccinations, and were provided with emergency housing. The cats range in age from under 1 month to 3 years and are reported to be in good health, displaying friendliness towards people.

The shelter clarified that this situation does not constitute a cruelty or neglect investigation, as the owner has passed away and her family accepted assistance from the shelter during a difficult time. However, it serves as a reminder of how quickly cats can multiply in a household without spaying or neutering.

All of the cats will require spaying or neutering before they can be adopted into new homes. The sudden influx of cats has put additional pressure on Metro Animal Shelter, which was already operating at capacity prior to this intake.

To assist, the shelter is encouraging potential adopters to consider adopting other cats or kittens to create space for the new arrivals. Each adoption enables the shelter to provide care and prepare the cats for adoption.

Additionally, donations of non-clumping kitty litter, as well as funds for spay/neuter services, vaccinations, microchips, and medical care for these cats are welcome. Contributions will help maintain low adoption fees, ensuring that the cats can find new homes quickly while receiving quality care.
