Eden Animal Haven Collaborates with Willard Resident to Address Feral Cat Issue

Larson has been dealing with as many as 25 stray cats on her property. The rescue group employs a method known as trap, neuter, return (TNR). This process involves humanely trapping the cats, spaying or neutering them, and then returning them to their environment, preventing further reproduction.

To support these cats, Larson has constructed shelters around her property, ensuring they have a safe and comfortable place to stay regardless of the weather. She highlighted the need for TNR, stating, "Even barn cats need to be TNR’d because they can have multiple kittens too and then they’re all over the place. So I’m trying to cut down on the population because it’s so hard to get them adopted out to people."

Carmen Tobler from Eden Animal Haven explained that the organization assesses each site prior to initiating the TNR process. "I usually will go out to the site, see how many cats there are, where they’re being fed, and then formulate a plan based on how many appointments we can get and how many cats need to be trapped," Tobler noted.

Eden Animal Haven is open to assisting other communities in managing feral cat populations and is actively seeking fosters and volunteers.
