Animal welfare advocates in Hong Kong plan to persist with microchipping stray dogs, even in light of recent legal risks. This follows charges against a rescuer involved in microchipping during an investigation tied to the death of a cyclist. Activists argue that prosecuting those who assist animals is counterproductive and are calling for a comprehensive 'trap, neuter, release' program. The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) has disputed claims of engaging in 'convenience culling' and emphasized that sterilization alone cannot address the public safety risks associated with uncontrolled dogs. The AFCD announced on Thursday the conclusion of a joint dog capture operation in Yuen Long, which was initiated after the suspected fatal mauling of a 27-year-old cyclist.
