Hannah Ferrell from the Lexington Humane Society described Ingrid as a sweet addition to their care, highlighting the shelter's current need for wet dog food and peanut butter. While each dog receives kibble, wet food is particularly essential for supplementing their meals, and peanut butter is used in various enrichment activities to engage the dogs mentally and physically.
"We like to use it as a great enrichment tool," Ferrell stated, mentioning its use in Kong treats and as a fun treat for the dogs. The request for supplies comes as the shelter is also accommodating additional dogs from Mobile, Alabama, following a recent hurricane.
As a nonprofit organization, the Lexington Humane Society depends significantly on community support. Ferrell emphasized that even small donations, like a couple of dollars for peanut butter, can significantly impact the animals' lives.
Donations can be dropped off at the shelter's location on Old Frankfort Pike or made via the shelter's Amazon wish list, allowing items to be shipped directly. Shelter officials stress that every contribution helps dogs like Ingrid in their search for a forever home.
