The dog was discovered outside the shelter on Wednesday. Officials reported that the animal, which is older, was nearly struck by a visitor's vehicle. If the shelter staff had already left for the day, the dog would have remained exposed to the sun and weather until morning.

In a social media post, the shelter expressed their concerns about the rising number of abandoned animals, urging the public not to leave pets in vulnerable situations. "We know we are beyond full. We know other shelters are full. But please do not abandon animals," the post stated. "While we agree we’d rather not see animals abandoned in the middle of the country, this is also not acceptable."

The shelter is asking the individual who left the dog to reach out, as the animal requires medical attention.
