LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - The Animal Protection Association (APA) is hosting Kitten Pawlooza 2026 on Sunday, May 17, at its shelter located at 3808 Hamburg Pike in Jeffersonville. This event celebrates kitten season and aims to support the organization’s most vulnerable residents.

Each year, APA sees a significant influx of kittens, many of whom are orphaned, abandoned, or born outdoors. "Kitten season places an enormous demand on our resources," said APA President Beth Rueschhoff. "Events like Kitten Pawlooza help us raise the funds and gather the supplies we need to care for these fragile lives. Just as importantly, it brings the community together around our mission."
In 2025, APA took in 138 kittens and successfully found homes for 162 cats and kittens. The average cost of care for each kitten is $180, while the adoption fee is set at $80, highlighting a funding gap that needs to be addressed through donations and fundraising.
Kitten Pawlooza will feature a variety of activities for attendees of all ages, including shelter tours, opportunities to meet adoptable cats and kittens, raffles, games, storytelling, and a mini educational session on kitten and cat care. Attendees can also enjoy cake, with additional food and drinks available for purchase at $1 each.
Admission to the event is free, although donations are encouraged. The APA is particularly in need of kitten formula, kitten food, and gift cards for pet and retail stores.
Founded in 1999, the Animal Protection Association is an all-volunteer, no-kill cat rescue serving Southern Indiana and the Louisville metro area. For more information on how to support their efforts, visit their website. Copyright 2026 WAVE. All rights reserved.
