The farm received £6,189 from the UK Shared Prosperity Rural Business Fund Programme 2025/26, enabling the family to create a safe space where local dog owners can exercise their pets off-lead.
The newly established facility, located on Lichfield Road, features six-foot-high dog fencing, a secure vehicle access gate, and essential amenities. The design allows visitors to drive into the field and securely close off the entrance before releasing their dogs.
Given its proximity to both established neighborhoods and new housing developments, the family identified an opportunity to broaden their business while serving the needs of local dog owners. Additional planting is also planned to enhance biodiversity and introduce natural features around the field.
Councillor Janice Silvester-Hall, Cabinet Member for Visitor Economy, Ecology & Climate Change at Lichfield District Council, expressed support for the project, highlighting its importance to the local economy and community. She noted that this funding is intended to assist longstanding rural businesses in diversifying and investing in their future.
Andrew Hulme from Pipehill Farm commented on the current challenges facing traditional farming, emphasizing the necessity for alternative revenue streams to ensure the farm's viability. He acknowledged the financial support from the council, which has provided the confidence needed to pursue this new venture.
The Pipehill Dog Field is now open to the public, with additional information and booking options available on its dedicated website.
